Jesus, Our True Self-Defense
Jesus, our true self-defense.
As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.
-Matthew 24:37-39
This Chinese character represents Noah's Ark. Like the Chinese symbol, only 8 people survived the great flood. Noah chose God over the whole world. He alone listened to God's voice instead of the rest of mankind. We do not seriously think that there is an end to the world. We continue our daily lives without seeing how the world has changed. We blindly follow and focus on our selfish needs and desires. We love ourselves more than we love others. If it was your last day to live, how would you live differently?
If we look at Tae Kwon Do today and how it is portrayed in the olympics, we see degradation. Sparring is focused on who gets the most points, not who is the best fighter. Form stances have gotten shorter, walking stances are the norm; there is no twisting or full power of the strikes. Traditional forms and philosophy are being forgotten. Movements are wrong and make no sense. People who practice Tae Kwon Do want to be higher ranking, show off their status and decorate their uniform. They go to online classes, finish quick workshops, and take fast track classes to get certificates and status. If you follow the true Tae Kwon Do way, nothing is fast. Testing is everyday, learning is infinite and humility is bowing to respect everything before you. Like Noah, it is not easy to listen to the truth. It's not easy going against the masses.
But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.
-2 Timothy 3:1-5
This is how our world is. Every country has its people, its land and law. Our family hierarchy is the same: parents (law), children, and a home. God's kingdom is also the same. We are God's children, heaven is the land, and God is the law and the true power. We look at the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah and Noah's story. We look at the our world now and see the great danger. We see all the signs, but do we follow the path of righteousness? Now is the time. The present is the most important time because we can make changes now.
This is one of our mission sites in Guatemala.
This is why we go on missions, to share true self-defense. It is the World Christian Tae Kwon Do Mission's 10th Anniversary. We celebrate by bringing our fellowship to Mexico and Guatemala in April. We continue to reach out to the world with the Gospel and the Tae Kwon Do Spirit. Our mission is not easy. We demonstrate barefooted on hot cement/asphalt; we walk door-to-door/hut-to-hut spreading the good news; we demo in churches and schools; we pray before the sun rises and pray after the sun has long set. We spend most of our hours sharing and celebrating God's words and Tae Kwon Do. In dark times, there is always hope. Jesus is our hope, he is our true self-defense.
Our World Christian Tae Kwon Do Mission Team will be going to Mexico and Guatemala April 5 to April 12. We invite everyone to join us in our mission.
